I'm Back!!!

Hello December!!  I know, to those of you who read my blog, I have neglected you again. :(  Yes, this has been a "13" year for me, and all I can say is WOW!!

So last night I was chatting with a friend on the phone, and she was asking me questions about starting a non profit group...I told her to blog, right?  Blogging most definitely allows you to figure out if your subject or passion is of interest.  I couldn't believe it when I logged in here and discovered the amount of hits I get.  It's insane!  I truly started this blog to waste away time, talking about me and my life...sort of a selfish diary, so to speak.  But, Wow!  Those of you that follow me, secretly, must either be laughing your butts off at my scatter-brained life, or you're sincerely interested in who I am??

So, over the past year I have had a horrible life.  Get the violins ready, because this story is just plain senseless, and full of girly girl drama.  Yes, my husband and I are estranged; however, no divorce filing - I'm a sucker for trying to work everything out.  This is after all my 3rd marriage, and I'm just not interested in all the sensorial fog it takes to get through to establish whether a relationship is real or fantasy.  Eric wants to work it out, and so I am willing to work through our differences, so long as we work through them separated.  I made a mistake when I married for the 3rd time....I was not finished with many other projects that I had long started before my marriage to Eric.  In all fairness, we have agreed to return to our pre-marriage state of living, while respecting that we truly are married, and completing those things that should have been completed before we said we would honor and cherish one another, forsaking all others.  Do any of us really listen to the words we speak to one another?

I have daughters from my previous marriage, and there is no way I can forsake my daughters for my selfish needs.  Sometimes we enter into these feelings or situations so blinded by exhilaration or confusion that our hearts become deceptive and produce feelings that are hard to decipher between the real and the fog. When we enter into this sensorial fog, we lose our sense of discernment.  However, forgiveness and loyalty are very much involved when love is in the heart.  Eric and I have both discovered that we love one another, and that we are forgiving towards one another.  The true test is loyalty, not testing one another, but rather, testing self loyalty.

The truest test is loyalty to God.  Once we establish the love from God and find that our loyalties are real before God, we then have a gift of a clean heart to offer one another.  During our time of connecting, independently with God, we have agreed to complete the unfinished projects from our past lives.  I am not at liberty to discuss Eric's unfinished circumstances, but I do take pride in confessing my shortcomings in relation to my life.  What girly girl wouldn't tell it all?  LOL

So, my daughters are one unfinished responsibility in my life.  My 19 year old, Victoria has moved out and is claiming her independence.  She moved to Spring, Texas in June...I'm still waiting for her to find that independence she so raves about by paying her own cell phone and auto insurance. Hopefully some day soon.  My Jennifer just turned 17 and is struggling to finish her Senior year. Graduation is in May, but she won't legally be an adult until next November, but at least that milestone will be complete. Yay!

Ok, so everyone whom has read my previous blogs knows that I suffered a spinal chord injury in 2001.  Well, I am relieving the pain with Thrive (http://pamy421.le-vel.com/experience) and I am rehabilitating back to walking.  I tried to get it to a run this year, but my run was not getting me anywhere but tired and frustrated, and so I am happy to be walking and not in a wheel chair.  I am losing the excess body fat and strengthening my core, despite the severe nerve damage in my lower spine.  I have learned to take things slower and to appreciate the life I do have, even if it's not as lively as my past life.

I am turning 50 in April and I am very excited. I have a whole new chapter to start once my Jennifer graduates.  Eric and I have planned a trip to Alaska in July.  Last summer I traveled throughout the United States and met up with Eric to complete my ventures.  I have officially been through and seen 44 states in our beautiful country over the past 3 years, and I have been to all the islands of Hawaii twice in my life...Maui I've seen 3 times, it's my favorite!  In July, we will drive up the California coast through the Oregon and Washington coasts to catch the Ferry Cruise to Juneau, Alaska then we will take a Ferry to Skagway, Alaska where we will drive into Anchorage.  When we return, we will continue riving through Skagway and into Canada...We will drive through a large portion of the Yukon. Not sure if time will permit to go all the way through all the providences to come out at Niagara Falls in New York, but we will most definitely make to North Dakota....I haven't seen the North part of North Dakota yet.  Our trip will continue through Montana and back own through the inland parts of Washington and Oregon.  If time permits, I will stop in Las Vegas on the way home and stretch our journey home to Arizona via a visit to the Grand Canyon.  I've been several times, but I've never been there with Eric.

We are planning our trip in July for 3 weeks, and then a possible 5 day trip to Hawaii with Eric and the girls (we'll see how it all goes).  My goal is to be able to say that I have visited all 50 states by my 50th year.  I'm almost there...the only states I have never visited are: Alaska, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.  Look out Northwest, I'm coming to see you! :)

So, here we are tying up the loose ends and completing the responsibilities in our lives.  When we return from our trip in August, Eric and I will reunite as a couple to work on our marriage and enjoy the rest of our lives together.  I won't say everything will be perfect, but I will say our life will be ours to live, without any interferences from our pasts. Who knows?  Maybe there is such a thing as Happily Ever After on this Earth :)

About my "13" year...this year (2013) has really been a difficult one for me. I survived my surgery in November 2012. I closed down several of my businesses, and sold most of everything I own.  I have cleaned out the stress in my life by the bucketful's, and I have spent a lot of time in prayer before the Lord.  I wait patiently and humbly for His leading.  I am feeling empowered to walk into 2014 with integrity, grace, and prosperity. I know that 2014 is going to be a great year for me, and I am so looking forward to seeing the glory of God bringing healing, restoration, and blessings to me and my family 100 fold, in the name of Jesus!  Those who are reading my blog and agreeing with me for a great and prosperous 2014, I speak prayers of blessings over your life, before our Lord Jesus Christ! Amen! Amen!

Holidays have always been my favorite hobby; however....No holiday this year has been traditional for me.  I travelled somewhere new or did something different for each holiday.  I brought in the New Year drinking coffee with friends in the Diamond Lounge at Harrah's in Maricopa (I was still recovering from my surgery). I spent Valentines Day at a Slot Tournament and won over $300 (Yay for me).  I Traveled to Houston, Texas with my Victoria for 2 weeks during Easter, and I had my first weekend date with my husband, Eric over Memorial weekend.  We stayed in a cowboy cabin in Tombstone, and toured the town and the surrounding cities. Bisbee, Arizona is definitely a town to see, if you're ever in Tombstone, AZ.  Fourth of July I traveled back to my birthplace...Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and drove through the Carolina Pine Forests...I met up with Eric and had dinner at a beautiful seaside dinner house...it was very romantic, but our Prides were still a bit ripe...lol  Labor Day, we went to Boston, MA and drove through New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine - it was not only lovely, it was breath-taking! During the Harvest (Some who like to call it Halloween) I traveled to California to see my Orthopedist for my spine, and received the news that my nerve damage has severely worsened, so I went to a Pumpkin Farm on the coast and walked with Eric around the pumpkin patch.  Believe it or not, I walked out of there without buying one Pumpkin.  No Pumpkin Pies this year for me. I began to prepare a plan to start the Atkins Diet, and without further ado, I started on November 1st, my sister Karen started it with me. Thanksgiving was spent in California with my sister and her family - we had a Protein Only Thanksgiving...it was definitely different, and so so good!
My research of healthy living and eating brought me to many concerns.  Thrive is this awesome product with grade A ingredients, and yet I was not losing all of the weight I should have been losing, in fact I was yo-yo-ing. I discovered Candida....and my life has changed.  When I took the home Candida test and saw that I was a candidate for having Candida overgrowth, I was disgusted...and relieved to finally understand what my problem has been.  I have been detoxing now for 10 days and the weight is dropping off so fast, I'm in shock.  I will tell more about my experience with detoxing while killing the overgrowth off in my body in a later blog. It's not fun, but it's rewarding, and Thrive is the best medicine for the repair our bodies need during the Candida Die-Off period.  Thanks to Le-vel, I have the perfect ingredients in Thrive to conquer the monster of yeast inside of me (Good pharmaceutical grade Probiotics).  Yay for Thrive!!! (http://pamy421.le-vel.com)

Ok so, I am too lazy to thoroughly spellcheck or properly edit my blog....you might notice that my D or d doesn't work all the time...lol I need a new keyboard!  I also wanted to add photos as I usually do, but now it's late, so next time I will post some of the photos from my travels and explore the beauties of my memories....don't you just love making memories?  It's my favorite thing to do.

Well, it's that time for me to finish up my yearly responsibilities...I will elaborate more on my next blog...yes, I will post my next blog this week, so don't be shy....click to follow me and as I see more people following, I just might surprise you all with a weekly post....oh and I won't forget to spill it all like we girly girls do.  ;)

Until next time - work on your beauty from the inside out...as Audrey said, "happy girls are pretty girls..."

Another Season has Passed...LOL

Ok so my blogging gets neglected and here I am months later to talk about what has been going on.  Well, funny thing, I found a new product to try and it's called, Thrive.  Yes, I have been blowing up my friends on Facebook with all sorts of ads about joining me in a new venture.  Not many of them respond, but that's ok, all will see in time that Thrive is Amazing!!  I have made a new Blog about Thrive and since I am starting my first 8-Week Experience in 2013, I will be blogging daily on another site.  So go to Thrive with Pamy421 and enjoy as you read about my journey with Thrive.

Come back soon, so I can tell you all about my decisions to Divorce my husband, basically, I have some juicy girly girl complaints to unload.  I will be back later to tell the story, until then de-stress by reading all about my Thrive journey, and then go to the website and shop for yours, because we girly girls need the all-natural time-released capsule that keeps us healthy and looking younger. Bye for Now!

Let's catch up One Whole Year!!

Wow it's been over a year since I have taken the time to chat...I have so much to say and so much to talk about.  Let's see, where do I start?

Ok so last year I started school to complete a second Master's Degree and after my first term, I spent six weeks out on the road with my husband.  That was an incredible tour of 30 states, and I got to spend a day in Nashville, so exciting for me!!

We travelled and had a great time seeing so many things, and to my surprise we went under the ocean.  We visited the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, in Virginia.  I am still at a loss for words, I was excited and fearful at the same time, but all in all it was so much fun!  Did you know that there are tunnels that you drive deep down under the sea for about a mile and then you come back up to a bridge?  We must of went under and over 4 times, each about a mile, across the Bay, it was very intense.

The beauty of America is absolutely breath-taking...I didn't want to miss anything.  The back country roads were peaceful and the Big cities were a sight to see.  Pennsylvania and upsate New York were so beautiful, Connecticut and Maryland, were so green, and the Rocky Mountains were Amazing!  We drove by Graceland in Tennessee, and stayed at the Harrah's Tunica in Mississippi.  Louisville Kentucky had so much to see as we drove through, and St Louis was just as busy as Louisville that I couldn't take it all in.  Chicago, Illinois and the Bronx in New York were crowded and fast.  Nebraska was filled with rolling hills and a lot of Cattle, and Idaho was simply gorgeous.

I could go on and on through the 30 states I travelled through, but I think you got the picture.  God truly has blessed America from Sea to Shining Sea.

Well, when I returned home from my six-week travels on an 18 wheeler, I had to jump right back into school.  We also managed to take a Cruise in October for a week and had an Amazing time four 4 days to Ensenada, Mexica and Catalina Island.  I ended up breaking my left ankle and took a term off through the winter.

Thanksgiving was fun and full of Turkey and Christmas came upon us and left so fast.  We spent Christmas in California with my sister Karen and her family.  The holidays, like always were blessed and beautiful.  Eric and I came home early Christmas morning and slept in.  We had a nice Christmas lunch and went to Pinetop Arizona to play in the snow.  Boy did we find some snow!  I had so much fun!   We went to Las Vegas and saw the Nutcracker, it was Awsome, and then we enjoyed our stay at Harrah's.  The New Year was a happy one. We drove home from Vegas New Year's Eve and made it back in time to see the New Year in at Harrah's in Arizona.  Great times seeing 2011 out and winning $1000 after the New Year horns sounded.

Back online with USC in January and I plugged away at completing the semster in June.  Backing up a bit I spent a wonderful week in Hot Springs Arkansas with my daughter, Moncia.  My suite was on Lake Hamilton - It was beautiful!  Through July, I opened an office in Ontario California and have been busy with work from California since. Back and forth gets to be a pain sometimes though.

Jennifer was back to school the second week of August and I worked around my home to clean out closets, refrigerators, book shelves, and any clutter that had developed through my busy year.  I kept my position as Cheer Booster Secretary until the end of August, when I realized I didn't want to work with those women on the Booster board anymore.  They are so controlling and so difficult to work with, it actually made me ask myself, "Why am I here?"  I hated working with such an unorganized bunch of women.  So I resigned and found another venture.

LV Life - What an incredible opportunity!!  Since this is where I am today, I will write all about LV Life in my next blog post.  This incredible opportunity has changed my life!  I didn't start back to school in September, as I only have two more classes to take to complete my Masters, and so I decided that I would work on Le-vel Life and make this opportunity work for me.

So as you can see, I have had a busy year, but that doesn't stop me from carrying on towards more busyness, or shall I say business.  I love being an Entrepreneur!  I am so blessed to be able to set my own schedules and live my own life!

Well until next time, keep cool, stay busy and take care of you!

It's been a busy Summer of travel and good times!

I am back!  Wow, it's been a busy Summer, and I have so much to tell.  Let's see where do I start?  How about here and now - I am feeling great!  My energy levels have been up and running for the past five months.  OMG, has it really been five months?  How time flies when we're having fun :)  Let's see I left off in May when I had begun my first term at USC.  Super-cala-fragalistic-expialidoshus!!! ( the roots of the word: super- "above", cali- "beauty", fragilistic- "delicate", expiali- "to atone", and docious- "educable"
then the whole thing would mean roughly "Atoning for educability through delicate beauty.")  Ha! it was dynamic!!  I have never had the pleasure of learning so much in such a clear and concise instruction.  It's a great school and I am so happy to be learning something new.  I have registered for my Fall classes and those super hard.

Well if starting school in the Fall after being gone over the road on my husband's truck for six weeks wasn't bad, then who knows what is???  I attend USC through an Online forum, so my studies are pretty convenient until a broken leg and a pulled wisdom tooth became a distraction.  Not to forget to mention, I booked a cruise for my mom and dad, my daughters, Victoria and Jennifer, Eric and me; planned and put together a family reunion for my dad's family.  Like I said, it's been a busy five months.

Busy as a Worker Bee

Well here it is almost another month gone by - where in the heck does time go?  Since I have been in school I have very little free time.  So now that I am here I guess I'll blog how life's been going for me.  School has been great!!  I have been learning about learning behaviors and it's absolutely fascinating.

As secretary for the Copa Cheer Booster's of Parents, I have been busy handling the applications and paperwork for fundraising events.  Keeping busy has never been a problem for me, it seems all my life I have managed my time fairly well, but lately, it's been awful.  I feel like everything I do now takes hours upon hours to complete.  I am one who finishes what I start and I kill myself doing it.  Stress has been a huge problem for me lately and I need to find a way to grab my attention to taking better care of eliminating stress from my life.

It's been a busy month

Well I survived my birthday on April 21 - Yay!!  I don't feel any older, but I do feel wiser.  I went to the Arizona Desert Botanical Gardens with my husband Eric and we had a wonderful time getting out in nature and enjoying the beautiful weather while we walked through the Desert Spring Blooms.

Happy Birthday Pamy - Eric and Pam  April 21, 2011

Look, everyone - I'm Walking!!!  No more wheelchair for me on long hikes!

This is a milestone for me.  I am so happy to be getting my strength back enough to walk and enjoy a full day.

Moving on from my birthday, April came and went so fast my head is spinning. Eric left on April 25th to venture out and drive over the road.  He has been a truck driver for over 16 years and with my starting school and my daughters involved in their girl lives, it was the best time for Eric to go out on the road for a while.  He loves that sort of thing, and me?  I like my space, so this works out perfectly.

Eric's new truck - Freightliner Cascadia 2011

Easter 2011
So with Eric off we settled for a simple Easter.  He gave me my favorite yellow tulips and I gave him a big Chocolate Bunny and his favorite Peeps to snack on when he left.  Victoria, Jennifer and I colored a few dozen eggs and spent some quality time together.  I grabbed two baskets and filled them with goodies, and a summer outfit for each of the girls and called it done, after they hit me up for money they scurried off with their friends and I met my parents for dinner.  It was an untraditional day, but it was nice.

Elizabeth and Pam friends 38 years

The weather has been so beautiful and all the blooms are so pretty.  May came so fast and next thing I knew I was regitering for my classes with USC Online.  My friend Elizabeth called me and told me she would be in Phoenix for Mother's Day weekend and so we planned for her to stay here with us.  We had a wonderful time visiting and catching up.  It was wonderful seeing my friend of 38 years and spending time together talking and relaxing.

Happy Mother's Day!!!  Elizabeth flew back home early Sunday morning to be home with her daughters on Mother's Day.  My daughters and I went to Brunch and then stayed home for a quiet day watching chick flicks all day.  It was a nice rest for all three of us and a great day of quality time together.  It was a perfect Mommy day for me!

My first webcam photo online in class 5-17-2011

Now that I am caught up to this week let me tell about my first week in school.  First I was contacted last week by a placement advisor and was told to report to one of the Middle Schools here in town.  My first assignment is to interview the Principal, a teacher and a parent of one of the students, and so I met with the Principal and made sure that all releases were signed to video interview all parties.  I met with the school Librarian and discussed helping her on a volunteer basis to do my observation of the school environment and write my assessment notes on the middle school students.  I have set up my webcam for my classes and loggged into my first class last Tuesday - I love it already!!

Happy School Girl :)

So here I am again in school and I am loving my program, my classes and the challenge of working hard to obtain another degree.  Fight On Pamy!!

I have been so exhausted this week as my schedule has once again changed in my life; however I am concentrating more and more on the routines and schedules that will keep me healthy and happy.  I have worked out everyday for two-and-a-half hours and I have exercised my mind during my studies.  So now the papers begin and my writing will get more exercise as well.  So here's to another year of sharpening my mind and toning my body.  I have lost 87 pounds since June 3, 2010 and now I am setting out to lose another 63 pounds by or before my graduation date, next year, May 20, 2012.  My goal weight is to be 105 pounds by next year so I have changed my eating habits to healthier choices and I have added water to my beverage list of coffee, unsweetened, sweet tea, cranberry juice, orange juice, pomagranite juice, and milk.  No more diet coke for me!!

Purple is a favorite of mine and I do believe God made purple flowers to remind us to smile.

Arizona Iris

I am back and happy to be sharing my life and the beauty of looking back to all the blessings God has granted me throughout my years!  :)

Moving forward towards a better environment, a better life, and a better me!!

Just the thing we all need more of!

Setting Some Goals for a Healthy Me!

"Are you tired of chasing pretty rainbows, and aren't you tired of spinning round and round?  Pack up all the shattered dreams in your life, and at the feet of Jesus lay them down!"

"Give them all to Jesus," is the name of the song that I got those words above from.  I use to sing that song when I was a young woman in church.  I still find myself singing those words in my head often when it just seems that life is not going how I would want it to go.  So here I am to discuss setting some goals, yeah ok, I can do that.

What type of goals would be best for a girly girl?  Well, one would be to figure out the areas that make me feel anything but happy, and set some goals to change them. Ok, so what makes me unhappy?

Mentally - I am unhappy when I am stressed or worried, so the thing there would be to find what eliminates stress.  For me, reading the word of God eliminates a lot of stress, having everything around me clean and organized helps to eliminate worry, and getting plenty of rest and exercise relieves the tension that causes stress.

Physically - I am unhappy when my clothes don't fit me like they use to, so the for me to eliminate physical stress would be for me to work at putting my body into the shape that makes me feel good, dressing up and feeling pretty, and wearing make-up and soft colognes or body sprays to remind me of smelling and looking pretty.

Psychologically - I am unhappy when I am not giving time to God in worship and prayer, so eliminate my troubled soul I should meditate on God and his glory in meditation of song and prayer daily.

Mind, Body, and Soul are the three areas of my life that I need to consider for a healthy happy girly girl life.  So here I go, exposing my inner desires in setting some goals to be exactly what and who I want to be.

Hugs,
Pamy

Sensational Healthy Tips

Somewhere orer the rainbow way up high there's a land that I've heard of once in a lullaby...Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true.  Judy Garland ~

Rainbows are pretty in disguise beneath a silver lining
that are unable to exist without grey clouds.  Move forward on that
brick road of life to a land of beauty, poise and grace.

We all look for that dream somewhere over the rainbow, or that silver lining that seems to be what we need to find happiness.  I think that happiness dwells within each of us; however we look to rainbows and silver dreams thinking that there's something more to life.  In actuality there is so much more to life, but it's trapped inside of us.  Healthy aspirations entail so many categories, so to discuss health there are many variations such as what we eat, where we sleep, and how we spend our time.  In my research I found a very interesting philosophy that I agree with and so I will discuss the four basic rules of health.  A true girly girl will consider all areas of feminine stature, so here are a few suggestions I found during my research.

We tend to limit ourselves because we fear routine or not being apart of the crowd, almost as if we might miss something.  Ha!  I have been out there in the crowds and, oh yes, it's fun, as a matter of fact I would encourage everyone to try it once or twice; however nothing ever changes, same old stuff just different day, different faces, and fashion or music rotate around about every 10 to 20 years.  The basic rules of health just get better every year and with so much research and technology we have the ability to conquer many of our undisciplined habits.  The Circle of Life may continue to turn, but adding some routine to that circle could very well be the answer to looking and feeling healthy. :)

"4 basic rules of health."1. Move a Lot

We all know that movement is extremely important for our health, so walk, run, dance, exercise, just move!

We were built for movement, and our health depends on it. Movement increases circulation, circulation fires all the complex and interdependent biochemical reactions that make a body go and keep it healthy for the long run. Movement builds muscle, encourages bone formation, each activity driving up your metabolism to use up the energy you consume.

2. Eat well and drink water
What else can I say? A lot of books have been written about healthy food and healthy eating, but I will repeat it again: we all know what is healthy and what is not.

Maybe there are some disputable products that cannot be considered healthy or not for sure. But who doesn't know that fruits and vegetables are healthy and alcohol is not healthy?

3. Get enough sleep and establish a daily routine

Lose the puffiness and rest your eyes through your sleep - Use a sleep mask, I love mine!

Sleep is considered to be the easiest of all beauty treatments, and it is also among the most effective.

Heard the term "beauty sleep"? Well it's not grandmotherly lore.

Try setting a "bedtime" for yourself and try to stick to it. Prescribed 7-8 hours of sound sleep is important for your health and beauty.

I should say that habits are important not only for sleep. Try to eat, exercise, work at the same time every day.

A good routine is a real gift to your body, this way it will always get ready for the next activity.

4. Avoid stress! Unmanaged stress does more to rob us of energy than anything else.

Stress generates negative emotions, disrupts sleep, fosters poor eating habits and interferes with exercise routines.

In addition, stress hormones can wreak havoc on our cardiovascular and immune systems.

The results can be disastrous for outsmarting the status quo. Learning proper ways to respond to stress is an essential life skill.

Yoga, deep breathing and meditation are all great options and should be incorporated into a daily routine. Your good mood is the key to success!

Your good mood is the key to success!

Here are some great ways to improve your immune system and keeping yourself healthy ~

Improve your immune system:The Art of Doing Nothing:

Sure, we all know how to do nothing. We all know how to lay around and waste time. But many of us are too busy to do it much, and when we do it, our minds are often on other things. We cannot relax and enjoy the nothingness. Doing nothing can be a waste of time, or it can be an art form. Here’s how to become a master, and in the process, improve your life, melt away the stress and make yourself more productive when you actually do work.

Start small
Doing nothing, in the true sense of the word, can be overwhelming if you attempt to do too much nothing at once. Do small nothings at first. Focus on 5-10 minutes at a time, and start your practice sessions in a safe place — at home, not at work or in a busy public place. You may also not be ready to do nothing in the middle of nature, so do it in your bedroom or living room. Find a time and place where there are not many distractions, not much noise, not a lot of people to bother you.
Shut off all distractions — TV, computer, cell phones, regular phones, Blackberries, and the like. Doing nothing is hard when our communications gadgets are calling at us to do something.

Now, close your eyes, and do nothing. Yes, the smart-asses out there will say you’re doing something — you’re sitting there or laying there, closing your eyes. But we mean doing nothing in the sense that if someone were to call us up and ask what we’re doing, we say “Oh, nothing.” Don’t let them call you up, though. They are trying to distract you.

After 5-10 minutes of doing, nothing, you can quit, and go do something. But try to do this every day, or as much as possible, because it is not possible to become a master without practice.

                            Breathing

The first place to start in the quest for mastery over this art is in your breathing. If this sounds suspiciously like meditation, well, cast those suspicions out of your mind. We are not here to do suspicion — we are doing nothing.
Start first by breathing slowly in, and then slowly out. Now closely monitor your breath as it enters your body, through your nose, and goes down into your lungs, and fills your lungs. Now feel it as it goes out of your body, through your mouth, and feel the satisfying emptying of your lungs.
Do this for 5-10 minutes, if you can. Practice this as you can. When you start thinking about other things, stop that! Don’t beat yourself up about it, but bring your thoughts back to your breathing every time.

                                  Relaxing

An important part of doing nothing is being able to completely relax. If we are tense, then the doing of the nothing is really for naught. Relaxing starts by finding a comfortable place to do your nothing — a soft chair, a plush couch, a well-made, clean bed. Once you’ve found this spot, lie in it, and wiggle around to make it fit your body better. Think of how a cat lies down, and makes itself comfortable. Cats are very, very good at doing nothing. You may never approach their level of mastery, but they make for great inspiration.
Next, try the breathing technique. If you are not completely relaxed by now (and a short nap would be a great indication of relaxation), then try self massage. Yes, massage is much better when administered by other hands, but self massage is great too. Start with your shoulders and neck. Work your way up to your head and even your face. Also do your back, and legs and arms. Avoid any areas that might lead to doing something (although that can be relaxing too).

Yet another great way of relaxing is an exercise where you tense each muscle in your body, one body part at a time, and then let the tensed muscle relax. Start with your feet, then your legs, and work your way up to your eyebrows. If you can do the top of your head, you may be too advanced for this article.
Once you are relaxed, see if you can relax even more. Try not to relax so much that you lose control of your bodily fluids.

Bathing - an advanced stage

Those who are in the beginning stages of the Art of Doing Nothing should not attempt this stage. But once you’ve become proficient at the above steps, the stage of the Bath can be pretty great.
The bath must be nice and hot. Not lukewarm, but hot. Bubbles are also required, even if you are a man who is too manly for this. Just don’t tell any of your guy friends. Other bath accessories, such as a loofah sponge, or bath gels, or potpourri, are very optional.

Again, you must have all distractions shut off. Bathing is also best done if you are alone in the house, but if not, everyone else in the house must know that you CANNOT be disturbed, even if the house is burning down. If they break this sacred rule, you must turn upon them with the Wrath of Hell.
Step into your bath, one foot at a time, very slowly. If your bath is properly hot, it is best if you get into it an inch at a time. For more sensitive body parts, such as the crotchal area, it is best to squeeze your eyes shut tight and slowly lower yourself into the steaming water despite all instincts to flee. Once you are fully immersed (and you should go completely under, head included, at first), close your eyes, and feel the heat penetrating your body.

You may begin to sweat. This is a good thing. Allow the sweat to flow. You may need a glass of water as the sweat could dehydrate you. A good book is another great way to enjoy your bath. Allow your muscles to be penetrated by the heat, to be relaxed completely, and feel all your worries and stresses and aches and inner turmoil flow out of your body into the water.

A hot bath is even more awesome if followed by a bracing cold shower. Either way, get out of the bath once the water is no longer warm and your skin is very raisin-like.

Tasting and feeling

Doing nothing is also great when accompanied by very good beverages or food. Good tea or coffee, wine, hot cocoa, and other sensual beverages go very well with the Art. It’s best to take these beverages by themselves, with no food, and without a book or other distractions. Focus on the liquid as you sip it slowly, savoring every bit of the flavor and texture and temperature in your mouth before swallowing, and feeling the swallow completely. Close your eyes as you do this. Truly enjoy this drink.

Foods are also great: berries, rich desserts, freshly made bread, the best … soup … ever, or whatever it is that you love. Be sure you eat it slowly, savoring every bite. Chew slowly, and close your eyes as you enjoy the food. Feel the texture in your mouth. It is bliss!

Doing nothing in nature

Once you’ve passed the above stages, it is time to practice this gentle art out in nature. Find a peaceful place — in your front yard if that’s peaceful, a park, the woods, at the beach, a river, a lake — places with water are excellent. Places out of reach of the sounds of traffic and city life are best.

Out here in nature, you can practice the art for 20 minutes, an hour, or even longer. There are fewer distractions, and you can really shut yourself off from the stresses of life. Don’t just let your mind wander everywhere — focus on the natural surroundings around you. Look closely at the plants, at the water, at the wildlife. Truly appreciate the majesty of nature, the miracle of life.

Incorporating the Art in daily life

This is the final stage of mastering this Art. Don’t attempt it until you’ve practiced and become competent at the above stages.

Start by doing nothing while you are waiting in line, at the doctor’s office, on a bus, or for a plane. Wait, without reading a newspaper or magazine, without talking on the phone, without checking your email, without writing out your to-do list, without doing any work, without worrying about what you need to do later. Wait, and do nothing. Concentrate on your breathing, or try one of the relaxation techniques above. Concentrate on those around you — watch them, try to understand them, listen to their conversations.

Next, try doing nothing when you drive. Yes, you must drive, but try to do nothing else. Don’t listen to music or news or an audiotape. Don’t multi-task. Don’t talk on your cell phone, don’t eat, and don’t do your makeup. Just drive. Concentrate on your driving, look at the things you are passing, and feel your breathing. Relax yourself, and don’t worry about the other drivers (but don’t crash into them!). Drive slowly, going easy on the gas and brake pedals. This technique has a great side-effect: better gas mileage.

Last, try doing nothing in the middle of chaos, in your workplace or other stressful environment. Just shut everything out, close your eyes, and think about your breathing. Try a relaxation technique. Do this for 5-10 minutes at a time, building up to 20-30 minutes. If you can do this, in the middle of a stressful day at work or with the kids, you will allow yourself to focus more fully on the task at hand. You will be relaxed and ready to concentrate, to bring yourself into a state of flow. (Warning: Doing nothing could get you in trouble with your boss, so be careful! But if it makes you more productive, your boss might not mind.)

The Art of Doing Nothing cannot be mastered overnight. It will take hours and hours of practice, of hard work (doing nothing isn’t easy!). But you will enjoy every minute of it! Try it today.
